Broomfield considering buffer zone, other oil and gas recommendations

BROOMFIELD — Residents are requesting a quarter-mile buffer zone between oil and gas wells and homes, parks, schools and bodies of water.

Broomfield City Council is considering the 1,320-foot buffer zone, the Denver Business Journal reports, which would apply to new wells being drilled and new development that would encroach on existing wells.

The rule is meant to address Broomfield’s growing oil and gas issues, as the industry across the state has grown. In addition to the buffer zone, the 13-page draft of oil and gas recommendations Broomfield is considering includes suggestions on light, noise, quality of air, water and traffic.
