Denver builder needs 100 workers for solar projects in Northern Colorado

DENVER — McCarthy Buildings Cos. Inc. plans to hire 100 workers in Northern Colorado for solar-energy projects in Platteville and Kersey.

The Denver-based company is looking for general laborers, carpenters, equipment operators, and journeyman and apprentice electricians.

Workers will assemble, install and wire more than 220,000 solar panels on the two utility-scale solar projects that will be funded, owned and operated by Nashville, Tenn.-based Silicon Ranch Corp.

The 30-acre project in Kersey will feature more than 40,000 solar panels. It will provide enough renewable power to help serve more than 600 Poudre Valley Rural Electric Association households annually.

The Rattlesnake project in Platteville will consist of 181,800 solar panels. The project will produce energy for United Power and help power 2,700 households annually.

McCarthy’s renewable-energy team will train the new workers using Training Within Industry, a program developed by the United States military in the 1940s to help industry quickly and reliably retrain workers on moderately complex tasks.

“Over the past year, we have scaled our workforce considerably to manage several utility-scale solar projects in Colorado.” said Justin Peterson, project director for McCarthy. “By implementing an approach like Training Within Industry, we are able to quickly train individuals with no prior experience on solar installation while also increasing their overall productivity and skill level.”
