More than 5,000 Rocky Flats claimants could receive compensation

More than 5,000 claims submitted as part of a $375 million class-action lawsuit filed on behalf of owners of property downwind of the former Rocky Flats nuclear-weapons plant appear to be valid, the lawyer overseeing the case told The Denver Post.

Philadelphia attorney Merrill Davidoff, with the law firm Berger & Montague, told that Post that he has received 10,036 claims and that 5,276 could be eligible for compensation due to loss of property value stemming from release of plutonium by the plant, located in Jefferson County south of Boulder.

Davidoff said the number of valid claims could increase as review of filed claims continues, and additional claims still could be submitted.
