Dish faces $280M fines for illegal robot calls
Dish Network faces a $280 million fine due to illegal robot calls.
The Denver Business Journal reports that U.S. District Judge Sue Myerscough in Illinois ordered Dish, based in Douglas County, to pay $168 million to the U.S. government, and another $84 million to several states, including California, Illinois, North Carolina and Ohio for violating federal “do-not-call” laws. An additional $28 million in fines was to go to states for violating state laws.
The fines stem from legal actions that began eight years ago over Dish violating do-not-call laws by making the illegal robocalls.
