BOULDER — The Cigarette Store Corp., doing business as Smoker Friendly, has acquired Cigars on 6th, an iconic tobacco products and cigar store in Denver.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Boulder-based Smoker Friendly will continue to operate the store at 707 E. 6th Ave., under the Cigars on 6th name, and it will introduce the Smoker Friendly brand of cigars in the store.  

Terry Gallagher Jr., president of Smoker Friendly, said in a prepared statement that “the acquisition is a great opportunity to continue to expand our footprint in the Denver market and more specifically continue to grow our market share in the hand-rolled cigar retail sector.” He said the family-owned business continues to look at other acquisition opportunities in multiple markets as it seeks to grow its retail footprint nationally.  

“We are very excited about bringing the great premium cigar business that is established in this store and the unique neighborhood personality that Dan Dunne created at Cigars on 6th into our portfolio,” Gallagher said. “Dan and his team did a great job of creating and building this iconic Denver cigar store.”

The corporation claims it is the largest retail tobacco-store operation in the United States with 103 retail outlets —  a mix of tobacco stores, cigar lounges, liquor stores and Gasamat stations in six states.

Founded in 1991, the corporation employs more than 500 employees.
