WomenGive, a program of United Way of Larimer County, was started in Larimer County in 2006 as an opportunity for women in our community to come together to help other women.

Weiser rounds out the CU team driving the initiative, which includes Terri Fiez, vice chancellor for Research & Innovation, and assistant directors George Deriso and Sarabeth Berk. Weiser started his duties as faculty director of the initiative Jan. 3.

The initiative aims to engage the entire campus and collaborate with the surrounding community to bring entrepreneurial mindsets and methodologies to faculty, staff and students. In so doing, the initiative advances Chancellor Phil DiStefano’s goal of making CU Boulder the go-to public university for entrepreneurship, startups and innovation.

“For over the last decade, CU Boulder has built an increasingly impressive set of activities and collaborations in the innovation and entrepreneurship arena,” Weiser said in a prepared statement. “I am delighted to work with Vice Chancellor Fiez and leaders across the campus and community to take it to the next level.”

Weiser will continue in his current roles a professor of law and telecommunications, and executive director of the Silicon Flatirons Center for Law, Technology and Entrepreneurship, which he founded. Weiser helped launch several campus and community entrepreneurship programs, including Startup Colorado, Blackstone Entrepreneurs Network, Global Entrepreneurs in Residence, Entrepreneurship Seed Award and Governmental Entrepreneurial Leadership Accelerator.

Before becoming dean, Weiser served as senior adviser for technology and innovation to the National Economic Council director at the White House from April 2010 to June 2011. Prior to joining the White House, Weiser served as the deputy assistant attorney general at the Justice Department’s Antitrust Division.
