Crews remodeling former OfficeMax space in Boulder for new Michaels store

BOULDER — Work is underway on a tenant remodel for a new Michaels store in the Market Square Shopping Center space that was vacated by OfficeMax last year.

A spokesperson for Irving, Texas-based The Michaels Cos. Inc. (Nasdaq: MIK) on Tuesday declined comment on the Boulder site.

In addition to the interior remodel, a building permit issued by the city of Boulder indicates that work will also include a new storefront entry, replacement awnings and an accessible sidewalk.

Michaels, an arts and crafts specialty retailer, already has a Boulder store at 4800 Baseline Road in the Meadows on the Parkway shopping center. It’s unclear whether the Market Square location will be an additional store or if the existing Boulder store will relocate. Michaels’ other store locations in the region include Superior, Longmont, Fort Collins and Greeley.
