Rockies Venture Club hosting angel-investment seminar in Fort Collins

FORT COLLINS — Peter Adams, executive director of the Rockies Venture Club and author of “Venture Capital for Dummies,” will give a talk in Fort Collins next month to prospective angel investors about the fundamentals of investing.

Accelerate in Fort Collins: Angel Investors in Northern Colorado, will be a half-day event from 2:30 to 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 7,  at Galvanize Fort Collins,  242 Linden St.

The event will include Adams’ talk, a panel discussion among members of Fort Collins’ finance and startup communities, pitches from two startup companies looking for growth capital, an investor discussion and a networking happy hour.

Platte River Power Authority, the community-owned wholesale electricity provider for Northern Colorado, has a history of bold initiatives.

The event will provide information about analyzing a deal, negotiation and valuations, plus legal and tax issues so angel investors can make smart investments and do well while supporting their community, said Ian McConville, program manager for the Rockies Venture Club. It also will provide information that will give current investors a chance to brush up on their knowledge.

McConville said the two companies that will make pitches have yet to be confirmed.

Rockies Venture Institute in collaboration with EnConnect Holdings and Rockies Venture Club received a $15,000 grant from the city of Fort Collins to be used for angel recruitment and entrepreneur education.

The event is free to current and prospective angel investors. Members of Colorado Angel Investors, RVC’s Fort Collins chapter, may bring a guest at no cost.
