UCHealth submits plans for full-service hospital in Greeley

GREELEY — UCHealth has submitted preliminary plans to the city of Greeley’s planning department to build a medical campus that will include a full-service hospital on 21.5 acres between 65th and 71st avenues south of U.S. Highway 34.

The Aurora-based health system has hospitals in Fort Collins and Loveland, and is building hospitals in Broomfield, Longmont and Highlands Ranch.

In a recent letter to the planning department, UCHealth said it anticipates beginning construction this summer and hopes to open the first phase of the three-story UCHealth Greeley Medical Center in 2017.

The center will be constructed in phases over time based on market needs, and eventually will include medical offices and clinical space, according to a document submitted to the department.

Documents did not disclose the number of beds for the hospital or the square footage of all the buildings when buildout is completed. UCHealth did not respond to a request for details on the project.

A letter to the planning department indicated there will be ambulatory and urgent care centers with medical offices, oncology, outpatient physical therapy, retail pharmacy, outpatient lab and imaging, plus an emergency department with an on-grade helipad.

UCHealth acquired the vacant land from St. Michaels Commercial Enterprises LLC in February for $2.8 million, according to public records.

The initial phase will be constructed on the west half of the property with primary patient and visitor access from West 29th Street aligned with the 68th Avenue intersection. A second site access will be provided further west aligned with the 69th Avenue intersection, which will primarily be used by staff.

The neighboring property to the east is zoned commercial and is occupied by Discount Tire. The properties south of the site are being developed as multifamily housing and single-family housing. The property to the west is zoned commercial and is undeveloped. Operating oil/gas wells exist on the adjacent property to the west of the site.
