Copper Mountain owner Powdr acquires Eldora Mountain Resort
Powdr Corp., the Utah-based owner of Copper Mountain, announced Monday that the company has acquired Eldora Mountain Resort in southwest Boulder County.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
In addition to Colorado’s Copper Mountain resort, Powdr, headquartered in Park City, owns seven other ski resorts: Soda Springs and Boreal in California, Killington and Pico Mountain in Vermont, Mt. Bachelor in Oregon, Lee Canyon in Nevada, and Gorgoza Park in Utah.
Eldora, which opened in 1962, includes 680 skiable acres about a half-hour drive west of downtown Boulder. It had been owned since 1991 by a group led by Bill Killebrew. The resort employs 35 people in the summer and 600 during ski season, which this year is slated to open Nov. 18.

Powdr vice president of marketing Mietra Beyer said the acquisition closed Monday morning. General manager Brent Tregaskis is expected to continue running operations at Eldora.
“Our intention right now is to keep everything intact as it is,” Beyer said. “I think they run a really good business at Eldora, so we’d love to continue what they’re delivering.
“They have amazing snow. They have an amazing proximity to the metro area and the Front Range. We think it’s a hidden gem.”
Beyer said there are no future plans of changes for Eldora that Powdr is ready to disclose at this time. But the acquisition by the adventure lifestyle company, which also owns Outside Television and the Woodward line of camps and year-round training centers, could provide an opportunity to integrate more Powdr offerings into the Eldora mix.
“I’ve had the privilege of knowing (Powdr CEO and owner) John Cumming for nearly 30 years,” Killebrew said in a press release from Powdr. “He has built a great adventure company and has the reputation as an outstanding operator. When we decided to consider selling Eldora, we wanted to put our resort in the best hands possible and Powdr was the first company that came to mind.”
Ski pass prices for the 2016-17 season at Eldora will not change, and the resort is already part of the Rocky Mountain Super Pass Plus that also includes Copper Mountain and Winter Park.
“Eldora is admired as a leading entry point and training ground for children and beginners,” Cumming said in the release. “We want to work hard for more people to join us in the adventure-filled world of snow sports.”
