Events to mark Boulder bike-share program’s fifth year
BOULDER — Boulder B-cycle, the nonprofit organization that runs the city’s bike-sharing program, will celebrate its fifth anniversary next week with five days of events and discounts for its riders, along with opportunities for Boulder locals and visitors to try out its familiar red bikes.
In the five years since its launch on May 20, 2011, Boulder B-cycle has grown from 12 stations and 85 bicycles to 40 stations and 280 bikes. In that time, it has seen nearly a quarter of a million trips over 625,000 miles, which it estimates have burned 30 million calories and saved 350 tons of carbon from the atmosphere.
“We feel truly privileged to be celebrating five successful years here in Boulder,” said B-cycle executive director James Waddell. “In choosing how to celebrate our fifth anniversary, we wanted to make sure we offered something for everyone. These five days are an opportunity for us to both thank our current riders, and give opportunities for Boulderites who haven’t tried bike sharing yet to jump on board.”
