Developers target late 2017 for Residence Inn opening in Boulder

BOULDER — Developers of the Residence Inn going up at 2550 Canyon Blvd., in Boulder announced Tuesday that they’re anticipating a late 2017 opening for the extended-stay hotel.

That would add to what already figures to be a transformational year for the intersection of Canyon and 26th Street, where an Embassy Suites and Hilton Garden Inn are also slated to open along with a new 42,000-square-foot office building.

The Residence Inn, at the southwest corner of 26th and Canyon, is being developed by Centennial-based Stonebridge Cos., which operates the Hampton Inn in Louisville and a Residence Inn, Hampton Inn and Fairfield Inn in Loveland.

Stonebridge closed last summer on the $4.35 million purchase of the 1.65-acre parcel where the new Boulder Residence Inn will sit, and construction began last month. The 155-room hotel will feature a mix of studio, one and two-bedroom suites.

Stonebridge first filed formal site-review plans for the four-story hotel in 2013, originally planning 171 rooms.

Just northeast of the site, NAI Shames Makovsky is developing the Embassy Suites and Garden Inn along with Boulder developer Lou DellaCava’s office building. Construction on those three buildings — which sit on the north side of Canyon from 26th to 28th streets — began a year ago and is also slated to be complete next year.
