Foreign delegation to visit CSU for study of U.S. ski-area management
FORT COLLINS — Twenty representatives of ski areas located in countries in eastern Europe and western Asia will visit Colorado State University on Friday to learn about American ski-area management and marketing practices.
The group of ski-area managers and businessmen from Russia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Ukraine and Tajikistan will be hosted by CSU’s Department of Human Dimensions of Natural Resources. They are visiting the United States as part of the Special American Business Internship Training program run by the federal Department of Commerce’s International Trade Administration.
The training program was made aware of CSU’s graduate-education opportunities in ski-area management through the strong industry ties that exist between the program and the National Ski Areas Association, according to association president Michael Berry.

“I thought the content provided in the graduate certificate in ski-area management would undoubtedly be of great benefit to the SABIT delegation as a part of their winter tourism marketing and management educational tour,” Berry said, “especially considering the curriculum was developed in close collaboration with a range of ski-area managers across North America.”
The delegation and its interpreters will be welcomed by CSU provost Rick Miranda along with John Hayes, dean of CSU’s Warner College of Natural Resources, and Michael Manfredo, head of the Department for Human Dimensions of Natural Resources. After a campus tour provided by the Office of International Programs, the delegates will participate in an afternoon of educational sessions focused on human-resources management and strategic marketing considerations unique to the ski industry.
