Ex-Hunter Douglas attorney pleads guilty in $5M billing scheme
The former patent attorney for Hunter Douglas, which has a window-covering operation in Broomfield, is facing up to 20 years in prison for fraudulently billing the company for some $5 million.
The Denver Post reports that skepticism of certain expenses by a Hunter Douglas employee in Broomfield led to an investigation that ultimately saw Jason Thorne of Rockport, Maine, plead guilty to federal charges. The paper reports that the scheme included Throne and his wife setting up a shell company in Colorado that submitted “bogus” bills to Hunter Douglas, and then cashed the payments into a bank account in Steamboat Springs.
