Loveland lodgers led region in January occupancy rates

Lodgers in Loveland recorded a 59.2 percent occupancy rate during January, producing the best performance among cities and areas in Northern Colorado and the Boulder Valley tracked by the Colorado Hotel and Lodging Association.

Generally, January is the second slowest month for lodgers in Colorado, with December being the slowest.

Of the state’s 1.6 million rooms, 58.9 percent were rented each night on average, at an average daily rate of $157, compared with 60.9 percent and $153.99 per day in January of last year, according to the report.

The exception is ski resorts in the state, which in January posted a 66 percent occupancy rate and an average daily room rate of $333.19. Resorts in Aspen were charging $546 per night.

The association’s monthly Rocky Mountain Lodging Report released Thursday revealed the occupancy rate for hotels along the U.S. Highway 36 corridor for January was 58.6 percent, followed by Greeley, 53.7 percent; Boulder, 51.6 percent; Fort Collins, 47.7 percent; and Estes Park, 24.3 percent. The report does not include figures for Longmont.

Number of rooms and average daily rates during January for the following cities were:

Loveland has 867 rooms, which rented for an average of $115, compared with $111 in January of last year. Occupancy rate was down 10.2 percentage points comparing January of this year with the same month a year ago.

U.S. Highway 36 corridor (Interstate 25 to Boulder), 2,458 rooms, $114, up from $112 in January of last year. Occupancy rate was up 0.7 percentage points comparing January of this year with the same month a year ago.

Boulder: 1,708, $135, up from $129 in January 2015; Occupancy rate was down 8.2 percentage points.

Estes Park: 1,100, $130, up from $125 in January 2015; Occupancy rate was down 0.9 percentage points comparing January of this year with the same month a year ago.

Fort Collins: 1,511, $102, up from $98 in January 2015; Occupancy rate was down 3.5 percentage points comparing January of this year with the same month a year ago.

Greeley: 573, $98.63, down from $104 in January 2015. Occupancy rate was down 19.8 percentage points comparing January of this year with the same month a year ago.
