City closes on $40M purchase of Boulder Community Health campus

The city of Boulder announced late Friday afternoon that it has formally closed on the $40 million purchase of the Boulder Community Health campus at 1100 Balsam Ave.

The 8.8-acre site lies at the southwest corner of Balsam and Broadway. BCH last year moved the bulk of its facilities to its Foothills campus on the east side of town.

The city’s purchase includes the main hospital site at 1100 Balsam, as well as a pair of properties on Alpine Street and two on North Street.

WomenGive, a program of United Way of Larimer County, was started in Larimer County in 2006 as an opportunity for women in our community to come together to help other women.

BCH will continue to lease back the site until Dec. 4, 2017 unless the hospital decides to vacate it sooner. BCH continues to provide a range of medical services there, including behavioral health and rehabilitation.

The city has identified the site as a key redevelopment opportunity.

“We look forward to undertaking a meaningful and significant community engagement process that will support the thoughtful consideration of the future uses of this site,” city manager Jane Brautigam said in a release. “Redevelopment opportunities like this are rare in Boulder — and we want to ensure we leverage this one wisely and collaboratively.”
