BOULDER — A Boulder woman is facing felony theft and criminal impersonation charges after police say she used a false identity to receive nearly $500,000 in discounted medical care.

The Daily Camera reports that prosecutors say 59-year-old Minerva Roman-Romero used the name Nohemi Sarabia for a $114,000 procedure to place a pacemaker, to cover multiple emergency room visits, and other medical care.

A Boulder Community Health staff member alerted authorities after Roman-Romero repeatedly came into the hospital’s heart clinic and requested a name change on her patient file. Her alias, Nohemi, owed the hospital $959, though the total cost of her care was nearly $500,000.

Roman-Romero faces felony charges of theft between $100,000 and $999,000 and criminal impersonation.

Booking documents do not indicate if Roman-Romero has hired an attorney.
