Soup maker rebrands, will add new food products

NIWOT – Settled into its new Niwot home, Boulder Soup Works has rebranded as Boulder Organic! as it prepares to expand into foods other than soup.

Boulder Organic!, founded in 2006, has specialized in certified organic, non-GMO verified and certified gluten-free soups.

Chief executive Greg Powers said Tuesday that the company wanted to better reflect the organic nature of its products. But he said Boulder Organic! is also working on some new products that he expects to be released sometime next year.

Powers didn’t specify what the new offerings might be but said they would fit into the same “fresh grab-and-go category” as its soups.

“That’s one of the other reasons we looked at coming up with a name that’s a little more flexible,” Powers said.

While the company doesn’t disclose revenue, Boulder Organic! has grown rapidly over the past year, from 21 employees to 52. That’s a figure that Powers said could grow to between 55 and 70 over the coming year depending somewhat on whether the company adds a third shift.

Boulder Organic! distributes nationally but has seen particularly strong growth lately on both coasts.

Boulder Organic! moved last month from 2510 47th St. in Boulder, where it had less than 10,000 square feet, to 6363 Horizon Lane, where the company has more than 23,500 square feet. The new building is the former home of Community Food Share, which the owners of Boulder Organic! bought last fall for $1.7 million.

“Aside from leaving the offices where they were located, everything else is new inside,” Powers said. “So it was a pretty significant project.

“It’s been a big year for us.”
