Hach seeking $1M in incentives for expansion in Loveland

LOVELAND — Hach Co., a manufacturer of instruments used in water safety, will ask the city of Loveland for $1 million in assistance Tuesday night to build an 85,000-square-foot expansion on its 15-acre campus in the city.

Hach will go before the Loveland City Council to request building permit fee and use-tax waivers, and a business personal property tax rebate associated with the $25 million construction project that primarily would house its research and development department.

Hach had requested $700,000 in incentives in April 2013 when the project was planned to be 70,000 square feet with a budget of $14 million. The increased scope of the project includes a minimum of $4 million in new equipment purchases, prompting the larger request, according to city documents.

The Loveland Development Fund has pledged $50,000 toward the incentives, and Larimer County has been asked to contribute $250,000 through a business personal property tax rebate, according to the city’s meeting agenda documents.

Hach is in discussions with the Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade about possible tax credits, but any decision is not expected until later this fall.

Hach was moved to Loveland in 1978 and was acquired by Danaher Corp. in 1999. It currently employs about 1,000 people with an average wage package of $82,000, according to city documents.

Hach’s products serve a variety of industries including bottled water, wastewater and municipal drinking water, power generation, brewing water quality and water analysis in food production. The products are diverse from lab instruments and sensors to software and test kits/strips.

Construction of the new facility is expected to start in 2015 with completion in 2016.
