Legal Resource Day a clinic on court procedures
DENVER – People who want to represent themselves in court can learn about court procedures and processes by attending Legal Resource Day, a one-day clinic sponsored by the Colorado Judicial Branch.
The free clinic will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 20, at the Ralph L. Carr Colorado Judicial Center, 2 E. 14th Ave., in Denver.
Each year, more Coloradans forgo the counsel of an attorney and decide to represent themselves in court for civil and domestic relations matters, according to the Office of the State Court Administrator.
“Legal Resource Day is an opportunity for pro se litigants (non-attorneys representing themselves in court) to come to the courthouse to learn more about court procedures and processes to have an effective day in court,” Nancy Rice, chief justice of the Colorado Supreme Court, said in a prepared statement. “I sincerely hope many people will come to learn more about the judicial system, and I look forward to hosting more of these clinics in the future.”
Rice will kick off Legal Resource Day at 10 a.m. with opening remarks welcoming participants and providing an overview of the sessions being offered. The hourlong sessions will be taught by volunteer lawyers and include:
civil protection orders,
options for grandparents,
civil appeals,
myth busters for divorce cases,
how to collect on a money judgment,
child support and parenting time,
how to seal a criminal case,
ins and outs of evictions,
and the basics of court procedures.
