Dot Hill partners with SUSE in Germany

LONGMONT – Data-storage manufacturer Dot Hill Systems Corp. said Monday that it has partnered with the German computer data-storage company SUSE.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed between Longmont-based Dot Hill (Nasdaq: HILL) and Nuremburg, Germany-based SUSE. Dot Hill Systems’ Longmont plant has about 300 employees.

SUSE chose the Dot Hill AssuredSAN 3730 networked Fibre Channel RAID arrays for its new storage infrastructure, the companies said in a press statement. The system has an initial 80 terabytes of data-storage capacity.

“We saw an immediate performance increase during our evaluation of the Dot Hill 3730 systems,” Rudiger Oertel, software development and information technology administration manager at SUSE, said in the press statement. “The caching algorithms are very efficient and the battery-free, cache backup design eliminates the write-through performance issues we were seeing with other systems.”

SUSE plans to use more Dot Hill equipment at its data centers around the globe, according to the press statement.

Dot Hill ended 2011 with cash and cash equivalents of $46.2 million, compared with $45.7 million at the end of 2010 and $45.7 million at the end of third-quarter 2011, according to a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. The company is planning full-year 2012 revenue of $205 million to $225 million.

Dot Hill also has offices and/or representatives in China, Germany, Japan, the United Kingdom and Singapore.
