Good Sam offers ER online check-in

LAFAYETTE – Exempla Good Samaritan Medical Center is one of three hospitals now offering an online service to help emergency room patients hold their places in line.

The free InQuicker online service is envisioned as one that gives patients with less urgent needs a chance to wait at home before being seen by a health professional, rather than in an emergency room, said Mo Sheahan, a spokeswoman for Exempla Healthcare, the parent organization of Good Samaritan in Lafayette, Saint Joseph Hospital in Denver and Lutheran Medical Center in Thornton.

A patient with a life-threatening need will still be seen immediately in an Exempla hospital emergency room, Sheahan said.

Potential emergency room patients can use the InQuicker online service at home to figure out if they need to go to an emergency room right away, based on their ailments. If patients have signed up with InQuicker, once they arrive at the emergency room, they’re guaranteed to be seen within 15 minutes, Sheahan said.

“That way, they don’t wait in the emergency room, they wait at home,” Sheahan said.

The InQuicker service is designed to filter certain symptom keywords that may indicate a life-threatening medical condition. Users are asked to answer a series of questions online. If any of the keywords come up, they’re prompted to dial 911 or go immediately to the nearest emergency room.

Exempla Healthcare was formed in 1998 when Saint Joseph Hospital and Lutheran Medical Center joined. The company expanded in 2004 when Good Samaritan Medical Center opened. Exempla is a member of Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth Health System, a faith-based, not-for-profit organization. Sisters of Charity operates 11 care sites, four clinics and one youth residence in four states: California, Colorado, Kansas and Montana.
