Major delays possible on I-25 this weekend

WELD COUNTY- Work to repair bridge expansion joints on Interstate 25
over the Great Western Railroad near Mead will start at 9 p.m. on
Friday, Aug. 12 and continue until 11 a.m. on Sunday, Aug.14, according
to the Colorado Department of Transportation.

The work will require a temporary realignment of northbound and
southbound I-25, which will reduce the highway to one lane in each
direction from 10 p.m. Friday until 11 a.m. on Sunday with single lane
closures beginning at 9 p.m.

“We will be conducting extensive bridge work over the weekend that
requires us to tear up the existing southbound I-25 lanes, conduct
bridge repairs and repave in concrete,´ said CDOT Project Engineer Monte
Malik. “As a result, the interstate will be realigned for the majority
of the weekend, creating delays on I-25.”

In the temporary alignment, one lane of northbound and southbound I-25
will be open in each direction on the northbound lanes. The lane
closures and realignment will stretch for approximately four miles from
Mead to just south of Berthoud to safely allow traffic to enter and exit
the temporary alignment. In addition, the speed limit will be reduced
from 75 mph to 45 mph.

Major delays are possible throughout the weekend and CDOT strongly
advises motorists use alternate routes such as US Highway 85 and US
Highway 287. Fines for most infractions that occur in the work zone will
be doubled.

Colorado Constructors Inc. is the contractor for this $455,000 project
that will be complete by the end of September, weather permitting.
