Redistricting commission to tour state, seeking comment

DENVER – The Colorado Reapportionment Commission will host 25 events
throughout the state beginning Aug. 4, making a stop in Fort Collins
Aug. 11 and in Greeley on Aug. 29.

In Fort Collins, the commission will hold a public hearing in the
Colorado State University Behavioral Sciences building, 410 Pitkin St.,
in room 105. In Greeley, the hearing will take place at the University
of Northern Colorado’s University Center, located at 2045 10th Ave., in
Columbine B. Both meetings will begin at 6 p.m.

The commission is established by law every 10 years to redraw the
state’s seven Congressional districts following the U.S. Census. Eleven
members were appointed by the minority and majority leaders the Colorado
Senate and House, as well as the governor and the chief justice of the
Supreme Court.

The commission first presented a draft of a new map in April, but an
agreement on district boundaries was not reached before the legislative
session ended on May 11.
