Project Homeless Connect set for April 15
FORT COLLINS – The second annual “Project Homeless Connect” event aimed
at helping homeless people in Fort Collins is set for April 15 at the
Northside Aztlan Community Center.
The event will provide immediate free access to services that include
dental and medical screenings, eye exams, haircuts, employment
assistance, bus passes, youth services, bike repair and legal services.
Free transportation will be provided by Green Ride Colorado and the
event will also offer free breakfast, lunch and child care.
“The first goal of Project Homeless Connect is to provide a full range
of high quality support services in a user-friendly environment,´ said
Bryce Hach, Homeward 2020 executive director. “The second goal is to
engage the broader community about the issues and needs of the homeless
population.”
The event is sponsored by Homeward 2020 – an initiative of the Community
Foundation of Northern Colorado that seeks to end homelessness by 2020 –
and Colorado State University Student Leadership, Involvement and
Community Engagement (SLICE), the Bohemian Foundation, United Way of
Larimer County and 40 agencies and businesses.
About 150 CSU students will be paired with homeless or near-homeless clients, escorting them to different event stations.
“It is truly an honor for CSU students to have the opportunity to
participate in this important community event,´ said Jen Johnson, CSU
SLICE assistant director. “As volunteers, CSU students have the chance
to learn that homelessness can happen to anyone and lend a helping hand
to those currently in need.”
