Green Summit offers full day of eco-info

FORT COLLINS – The Northern Colorado Business Report‘s fifth annual
Green Summit takes place in just one week, on Thursday, April 7, from 7
a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Hilton Fort Collins, 425 W. Prospect Road.

The event offers a full day of panel discussions, business-to-business
exhibits, awards presentations, breakfast, lunch, a talk by former
Colorado Gov. Bill Ritter, and the opportunity to shred your outdated
records and safely recycle your obsolete electronics.

Ritter, now the director of the Center for the New Energy Economy and
Senior Scholar within Colorado State University’s School of Global
Environmental Sustainability, will deliver the keynote address at the
luncheon, which begins at noon.

He will also present NCBR‘s very first Environmental Entrepreneur Award.
This award honors a Northern Colorado company that has had a
significant positive impact on the environment and sustainability
through the development of a product or service.

Green Summit attendees can choose from a number of panel discussions and
presentations. During breakfast, Poudre Valley REA will present the
Beyond the Limits Award, recognizing the commitment made by a Northern
Colorado company to sustainable business practices.

This year’s panels include Finding the Green to go Green: Funding,
Rebates and Incentives for Sustainability Projects; Green Power on the
Go: Options Beyond Oil; Growing a Green Culture: Developing and
Sustaining a Green Business Plan, and the Green Office: Cost Management
through Green Technology, Waste Reduction and Efficient Paper Flow.

More than 30 businesses will be exhibiting products and services to help
other businesses implement eco-friendly strategies. And the Better
Business Bureau is sponsoring a Green Shred and E-cycling event as part
of the Green Summit. Records will be shredded and recycled; e-waste such
as computer components will be safely recycled through certified
recyclers. There is no cost for Green Summit attendees.

Back by popular demand, the afternoon Green Summit sessions will be
rapid-fire Hi 5 presentations by local businesses. Fifteen companies
will each present a program instituted within their organization aimed
at creating more sustainable business practices. The time limit is five
minutes using no more than 15 slides. Takeaways from the presentations
will not be available in hard copy, but will be provided to Green Summit
attendees through NCBR‘s website.

The city of Fort Collins’ Climate Wise EnvirOvation reception will close
the day of green business from 3 to 5 p.m. This celebration recognizes
Climate Wise partners who have achieved platinum, gold, silver or bronze
levels of participation and honors their commitment to green
initiatives. The public is invited to attend the EnvirOvation reception
free of charge. For more information and to register go to the Climate
Wise website
