Marilyn Meyerhoff March 12, 1937 – Feb. 15, 2011

One of the Business Report‘s most unique and favorite employees has passed away.

Marilyn Meyerhoff, who worked as a telemarketer for nearly seven years, died of complications from cancer at North Colorado Medical Center on Feb. 15, 2011.

Marilyn was hired in April 2004 to do phone sales for the Northern Colorado Business Report but eventually also performed that duty for NCBR‘s sister publications, the Boulder County Business Report and the Wyoming Business Report.

In those early days, Marilyn – a retired business owner, bookkeeper and apartment manager – worked at the Business Report‘s, office but declining health finally resulted in her making sales and subscription calls from her Greeley home.

Those who got to know Marilyn found her to be a truly wonderful person, full of humor, intellect, wisdom and dignity. She could come on as someone with a hard shell but was soon revealed to have a soft and caring heart.

Her smile could light up a room and her wicked sense of humor could be devastating. But it was her sultry phone voice and playful nature that made her much more than your average telemarketer. Her sales accomplishments are legendary because people were not turned off by her calls. She had the ability to connect immediately with almost everyone she called, and some subscription holders said they didn’t voluntarily re-subscribe because they were waiting to get that call from Marilyn and have a conversation that was personal and enjoyable.

Marilyn’s unique and special personality always shone through in every call she made, and her dedication to the Business Report went far above the call of duty. She moved to New York for nearly a year to be near her daughter and grandchildren in a time of need but still found time to make calls back to Colorado to Business Report customers.

She loved the Business Report and the Business Report loved her. And her dedication will hold a place of honor in all of our memories.

Marilyn was born in Chicago but lived in many places during her life, including Los Angeles and Phoenix. She was an amazing craftsperson, creating beautiful works of art out of common materials. Her family said she also loved listening to jazz, the photographs of Ansel Adams and clowns.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents and a brother. Survivors include her former husband of 37 years, Jerome; three sons and a daughter; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
