Building codes to be updated

BOULDER — Boulder County officials are about to update the county’s building code, and they have scheduled a meeting to get public input.

The county is considering a proposal to require fire sprinkler systems in all new one- and two-family dwellings and townhouses, according to a press release. It also will consider changes and clarifications to the BuildSmart residential energy program.

The proposed updates are designed to bring county building codes in line with the most recent International Building Code, a model code published in 2009. The International Building Code is a nationally recognized minimum safety standard governing the design and construction of buildings and structures.
