Center helping veteran-owned small businesses

DENVER – The Colorado Small Business Development Center Network has launched a program that will connect veterans and service-disabled veteran small-business owners with prime contractors for prime procurement opportunities.

The center will host the 5th Annual Veterans Small Business Conference at Cheyenne Mountain Resort in Colorado Springs on May 13 and 14. The conference for veteran business owners will feature seminars, one-on-one consulting with small-business experts and procurement representatives, and the unveiling of the new Veteran Small Business Database. Registration is available online at www.colorado.sbdc.org.

.

Despite federal contracting requirements designed to encourage the utilization of veteran-owned small businesses for prime contracting opportunities, many governmental agencies and large contractors do not know where to find veteran-owned small businesses with the requisite capacities.

This pilot program will allow veteran and service-disabled veterans in Colorado, Kansas, Arizona and Wyoming to enter information into a central database about their businesses, including location, capacities, classifications and desired projects.

Prime contractors will be able to search the database to find the veteran small business partners they need when they need them.

The conference will showcase two full days of workshops, organized around three tracks in order to meet the needs of veteran business owners at every stage of business: Back to Basics, Building a Foundation and Working with Government.

A registration fee of $90 for veterans, military and spouses covers entrance to all workshops and consulting opportunities as well as breakfast and lunch on both days. Nonveterans may attend the conference for $125.

Ralph Bozella, the vice president of the United Veterans Committee, will give the keynote speech on May 13. A full agenda and more information on the conference can be found at www.coloradosbdc.org. The database will be available at www.vetbizassist.org..
