Co-directors of museum step down

BOULDER – Penny Barnow and Joan Markowitz have ended their tenures as co-executive directors at the Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art.

“When they joined the museum five years ago, they had intended to stay about that length of time,´ said Andrew Burwick, vice president on the museum’s board of directors.

“We’re sorry to see them go, but they’ve always had this time frame in mind. It’s a very demanding job, and five years is a nice stint. They’ve been able to accomplish a lot during that time period.”

According to Tracy Jennings, president of the board, BMoCA had a period of financial stability, physical redevelopment and a program expansion as a result of their leadership.

The museum is accepting applications to replace the executive director position through Oct. 30.

Established in 1972, the Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art presents three contemporary art exhibit cycles a year, hosts artists talks and community events, has a summer calendar of educational offerings for children and year round art programs for adults.
