U.S. Sen. Bennet tours Northern Colorado

LOVELAND – U.S. Sen. Michael Bennet met with representatives of the Northern Colorado business community Thursday, addressing a breakfast meeting of the Northern Colorado Legislative Alliance Board.

Also attending were members of the Fort Collins, Greeley and Loveland chambers of commerce and the Northern Colorado Economic Development Corp. The meeting was held at Gates Conference Room on the McWhinney campus in the Centerra development in east Loveland.

During his meeting with the board, Bennet talked about a variety of issues, including budget reduction, cap-and-trade and health care reform, said Sandra Hagen Solin, NCLA’s issues manager.

“He took a number of questions, mostly on health-care reform,” Solin said. “It was a good dialogue.” About 75 people attended the meeting, she said.

Bennet was appointed to the Senate by Gov. Bill Ritter to replace former Sen. Ken Salazar, who was appointed Secretary of the Interior by President Barack Obama. The NCLA is the lobbying arm for the Fort Collins, Loveland and Greeley chambers of commerce and NCEDC.

Bennet is scheduled to be joined Thursday afternoon by Colorado Gov. Bill Ritter for a tour of the Colorado State University Engines and Energy Conversion Lab in Fort Collins where he will meet with representatives of the Northern Colorado Clean Energy Cluster to discuss the group’s role in the FortZED Smart Grid Project.

Clean Energy Cluster members include Abound Solar, Solix Biofuels, the Fort Collins Area Chamber and Woodward Governor Co.
