Retail sales, tax continue slide
DENVER – Retail sales and the taxes collected on them continued to fall in May compared to one year ago, according to figures released Thursday by the Colorado Department of Revenue.
Net sales tax in Larimer County fell 7 percent year-over-year, as retail sales fell 14 percent when compared to May 2008. In Weld County, sales and tax both dropped by about 25 percent from last May.
Larimer County’s total retail sales in May were $5.24 million, compared to $5.96 million last year. Weld County saw total sales of $3.25 million, compared to $4.27 million in May 2008.
