Colorado 14 resurfacing starts with stimulus funds

DENVER – The Colorado Department of Transportation has begun work on a 14-mile asphalt resurfacing project on Colorado Highway 14 between Cameron Pass and the State Fish Hatchery with $5.6 million in funding from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

About 35 employees of private construction companies will take part in the project, with two as new hires. In addition to paving, the project includes some guardrail replacement and shoulder work.

“Repairing this road will put Coloradans back to work, bring local jobs to Northern Colorado and make much-needed improvements in our infrastructure,´ said U.S. Rep. Betsy Markey, D-Fourth District.

Paving operations are set to begin July 20. LaFarge West Inc. of Longmont is the contractor for the project, which is scheduled to be complete by the end of August.

Colorado is scheduled to receive more than $400 million for transportation projects and $103 million for transit projects through the ARRA. For more information, visit www.dot.state.co.us/arra.
