CSU business students build strategic plan for LockMart

FORT COLLINS – Students at Colorado State University’s College of Business got hands-on experience by developing and presenting market analysis to Lockheed Martin Space Systems.

Working with CSU alumnus Rob Swanson, president and managing partner of RAS & Associates, the students built a strategic plan looking into the dynamics of the industry. In May, they presented their findings to Lockheed executives, which included strategic recommendations on how to build value for customers and shareholders during the next five years.

Rick Facchinello, vice president and controller for Lockheed Martin Space Systems and a CSU alumnus, said the benefit for the company lies in the development of the talent needed for its future workforce. Lockheed employs about 9,350 people in Colorado — 3,900 at the Space Systems business unit headquartered in Waterton Canyon near Denver.

“Working with CSU and RAS & Associates provided an opportunity for us to see high-quality, graduating students demonstrate some of the critical technical skills and leadership attributes we need in new recruits,´ said Facchinello, in a prepared statement.

CSU, Lockheed and RAS & Associates are in discussions to initiate a similar project for the coming school year.
