NoCo research stations to receive stimulus upgrades
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. Department of Agriculture will distribute $176 million in funds from the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act to make repairs on laboratory buildings and support research facilities in Larimer and Washington counties, U.S. Congresswoman Betsy Markey, D-Fourth District, has announced.
The National Center for Genetic Resources Preservation in Fort Collins is slated to receive about $290,000 to replace cooling towers, heat exchangers and lighting systems. The Central Great Plains Research Station in Akron will receive about $550,000 to perform upgrades to the facility’s HVAC and fire alarm systems and replace windows.
“This is great news for two important facilities working to support agriculture in Colorado,´ said Markey. “These facilities provide critical resources to farmers and ranchers across Colorado and maintaining their infrastructure allows USDA to stay on the cutting edge of research in food safety, nutrition, producing food and preserving the quality of our soil and water.”
