Colorado unemployment lowest in Boulder, Fort Collins-Loveland

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The unemployment rate in Fort Collins-Loveland and Boulder were the lowest in the state for May, as measured by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

A report released Tuesday showed the Boulder metropolitan area with the lowest unemployment rate at 6 percent, up from 5.8 percent in April. The Fort Collins-Loveland metro area had a 6.1 percent unemployment rate in May, down from 6.2 percent in April.

Colorado as a whole posted a 7.4 percent unemployment rate in May, up from 7.3 percent in April. The Denver-Aurora-Broomfield metro area’s rate of 7.5 percent in May held steady from April. The Colorado Springs metro area’s unemployment rate in May was 7.7 percent, down from 7.8 percent in April. Grand Junction and Pueblo had an 8.1 percent unemployment rate in May, holding steady in Grand Junction but down from 8.2 percent in April in Pueblo.

The Greeley metro area had the highest unemployment rate in May at 8.2 percent, up from 8.1 percent in April, the report said, while the national unemployment rate was 9.1 percent.  

And computer problems that began over the weekend continue at the Colorado Unemployment Insurance Program, causing slow or intermittent restricted Internet filing access for claims and biweekly reporting.

Claimants who need to file their biweekly report should call the CUBline automated reporting system at 303-813-2800 or toll free at 888-550-2800 outside the Denver metro area. New claimants can call 303-318-9123 in the Denver metro area OR 1-866-422-0401 outside Denver.

Claimants will not be penalized any benefits due to the computer outage, and will have two weeks to file for the previous reporting period.
