Laramie home prices top Fort Collins

As the 100th Border War approaches, Coldwell Banker Real Estate LLC is adding a little fuel to the fire with its index comparing home prices in college football towns.

Fort Collins and Laramie, Wyo. — whose Colorado State University Rams and University of Wyoming Cowboys will face off for the Bronze Boot trophy on Saturday — didn’t make it into either the “most expensive” or “least expensive” rankings in the College Home Price Comparison Index. Both appeared as “most affordable” towns in the Mountain West Conference.

Fort Collins was the third most affordable college football town with a 2008 average home price of $230,967. Laramie home prices are actually higher with an average of $282,333, ranking it fifth on the Coldwell Banker index.

Boulder, home of the University of Colorado Buffaloes, ranked as the 10th most expensive college football town in the nation with an average home price of $578,047. Palo Alto, Calif., ranked No. 1 with an average home price of $1.74 million, while Akron, Ohio, brought up the rear with an average of $135,780.

Coldwell Banker compiled data from its offices throughout the United States to find the average sales price of sold listings in 2008. Laramie does not have a Coldwell Banker office, so the average price was determined using data from the local multiple listing service.
