IRVINE, Calif. – Colorado placed 10th on the list of states with the highest foreclosure activity in September, according to a study by Irvine-based RealtyTrac.

But the good news for Colorado is that the state’s foreclosure activity rate in September was down by more than 6 percent from August and nearly 31 percent lower than the same month in 2007.

Nationally, foreclosure filings fell 12 percent in September from August but still were 21 percent higher than in September 2007. The report noted that national foreclosure filings were up by 71 percent for the third quarter of 2008 compared to the third quarter of 2007, but only 3 percent higher than second quarter 2008.

For the second month in a row, Nevada topped the RealtyTrac list for foreclosure activity in September, followed by Florida, California, Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Ohio, New Jersey, Indiana and Colorado.
