RTD plans Boulder pedestrian bridge

BOULDER – Construction related to Boulder’s transit village wouldn’t begin until 2015, but construction of a new Regional Transportation District bridge at Table Mesa and U.S. 36, plus a new bus station just east of 30th and Pearl streets, should begin by 2010.

City and RTD officials held an open house event Tuesday to update the public on its planning for the projects.

RTD officials said the new pedestrian bridge will go over U.S. 36, connecting the existing Table Mesa Park-N-Ride station on the north of the highway to a bus slip ramp on the south. The new south side would serve buses heading eastbound on U.S. 36.

RTD also plans to begin construction on its new bus station just east of 30th and Pearl streets by 2010. The station and possible future parking garage would complement the city’s planned transit village to the west.

The city won’t make final decisions on its transit village development until 2014 with construction possibly beginning in 2015. Pollard Motors, which now leases the property from the city, can remain until 2014.
