Stoner gears for One Library Park

FORT COLLINS – Fort Collins builder/developer Jay Stoner next week will unveil plans for the One Library Park project in Old Town Fort Collins, one that adds another 14 residential units to the downtown inventory.

Stoner plans to build seven brownstone-style homes and another seven loft-style condominiums in two four-story buildings on the northwest corner of Olive and Matthews streets.

The project will commence with the dismantling of a building that formerly housed Fort Collins Utilities offices in a process called deconstruction that maximizes reuse of building materials.

Stoner Co. staff member Neil Kaufman, who is also engaged in another deconstruction project on east Harmony Road in Fort Collins, will use the downtown opportunity to involve members of youth groups in the region in onsite construction apprenticeships.

“The deconstruction allows us to salvage valuable materials and divert them from what would otherwise be materials for the landfill,” Kaufman said.

Kaufman is founder of the National Center for Craftsmanship, a group that fosters high-quality construction techniques through the apprenticeship program.
