Wal-Mart medical clinics closed

SmartCare Family Medical Centers has closed all of its health clinics located within Wal-Mart stores around Colorado.

The company closed the clinics on June 20. SmartCare opened its first retail medical centers in the state in the Wal-Mart Supercenters in Greeley and Loveland in September 2006. There were 15 locations throughout the state when the clinics closed.

“We can confirm that all 15 SmartCare Family Medical Centers inside Wal-Mart Supercenters have closed,´ said Richard Peters, a company representative, in a statement. “All SmartCare employees have been notified. There are no further details at this time.”

When the no-appointment model was being launched, SmartCare’s Web site indicated that plans were in the works to open locations in Arizona, Georgia, Nevada and Washington. During the following five years, it planed to open as many as 1,050 centers.
