Boulder chamber VP steps down; to oversee special projects

BOULDER – Alice Swanson, executive vice president of the Boulder Chamber of Commerce, is stepping down from her post effective Jan 1.

But she’s not leaving the chamber entirely.

“I will continue to be in charge of Leadership Boulder County and Esprit Entrepreneur, and will design and implement an ongoing chamber communication plan,” Swanson said. “I love working with the staff and volunteers that make up the Boulder Chamber, and I am excited to remain a part of such a vital and effective organization.”

Empowering communities

Rocky Mountain Health Plans (RMHP), part of the UnitedHealthcare family, has pledged its commitment to uplift these communities through substantial investments in organizations addressing the distinct needs of our communities.

This is not the first time Swanson has changed her relationship with the chamber. She served as executive vice president from 1989 to 1996, when she resigned to take on management roles in the executive recruitment and staffing industries. She returned to the chamber as vice president in 2003.

Swanson said she decided to change her role in order to have more flexibility. She said her plan was to work on a project-oriented basis on interests including job-search assistance for college seniors and meeting and event planning.

She has agreed to organize the Bolder Boulder Expo in May.

Swanson doesn’t have a name for her new enterprise yet.

Boulder Chamber President Susan Graf said Swanson’s decision to step down as vice president led to organizational changes within the chamber. “We will not be replacing Alice as executive vice president,” Graf said. “I’m not sure she’s replaceable.”

Jan Berg, who joined the chamber staff as business development manager in September, was promoted to membership director to take on some of Swanson’s responsibilities.
