Anthem, Exempla partner to draw attention to wellness

BROOMFIELD -Anthem Colorado in Broomfield is partnering with Exempla Good Samaritan Medical Center in Lafayette to join the “America on the Move” initiative.

During the six-week program, subtitled “The Anthem Walking and Wellness Program,” residents of the new housing community are encouraged to take 2,000 more steps and eat 100 fewer calories per day.

The community, founded on the idea of activity for older adults and families, kicked off the program Friday, July 28, with a trail walk and presentation by Broomfield Mayor Karen Stuart and Exempla Chief Executive Officer David Hamm.

America on the Move is a nonprofit initiative based in Boston working to prevent obesity in the U.S. The organization works with public and private sectors to promote its mission. Schools, companies, civic groups, faith-based groups and health plans are among those who participate in the program.

In Colorado, four middle schools and several communities have been involved in the program. Mayor John Hickenlooper of Denver serves as honorary co-chairman for Colorado on the Move.

Stuart has been an advocate and promoter of the program. Broomfield was selected by America on the Move as a Thriving Community that promotes healthy eating and active living communitywide.
