Fort Collins reports sales tax decrease

FORT COLLINS — September sales tax collections in Fort Collins decreased 1.79
percent over the same period last year.
The actual collection of about $5 million was $86,450 lower than the amount
expected according to sales tax seasonal patterns. However, the
year-to-date collections are still up 3.97 percent over 2003.
The personal services industry had a 15.55 percent decrease over September
2003, making it the largest decline for the month. The industry also has
the largest decrease in sales tax year-to-date at 12.73 percent. Food
stores followed personal services in low September sales taxes with a 12.73
percent decrease. Building and construction had the largest sales tax
increase at 14.64 percent, and manufacturing and wholesale trade followed
with an increase of 10.55 percent.
Use tax receipts were up 14.13 percent over September 2003. Building
permits taxes increased 27.46 percent, and return taxes increased 31.42
percent. Car taxes were down 20.82 percent.
The report is released the month following the month of the tax collection
and reflects August sales.
