Mountain States Weather Services sold to Cheyenne company
FORT COLLINS – Mountain States Weather Services, a fixture in Northern Colorado since its founding in 1977, has been sold to DayWeather Inc. in Cheyenne.
Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed.
Mountain States Weather Services was created by meteorologist Jim Wirshborn, who will still provide weather reports to radio stations served by DayWeather Inc. and other clients. Wirshborn said he wanted to relieve himself of many of the increasing pressures associated with the business.
“Being a one-man band for over 30 years was not easy,” he said. “It worked, but it wasn’t easy. Now I don’t have to deal with the business side of it.”
Don Day, owner of DayWeather Inc., is a former employee of Mountain States who founded his company in 1992. DayWeather now serves about 125 radio stations and 50 newspapers in Wyoming, Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska, North and South Dakota, Montana and Texas.
