Greeley DDA plans for brew fest 2003

GREELEY — Though the season’s first snowfall hasn’t melted yet, Greeley’s Downtown Development Authority is already thinking spring.

At its Thursday meeting, the DDA will discuss the possibility of holding a brew fest in the downtown area in spring 2003.

While the plan is preliminary, DDA executive assistant Amy Farenbruch said, “We feel real confident about going forward with it.”

The DDA raised $12,000 with its Octoberfest, held in late September, and Farenbruch said the brew-fest concept is very successful in raising funds for Fort Collins’ DDA.

“We want to start small and really build into something,” Farenbruch said. “We don’t expect it to be a huge money-maker the first year.”

But judging from preliminary plans, the DDA is thinking big.

While the Octoberfest features German fare, Farenbruch said, “For the brew fest we’re looking at inviting the local breweries of northeastern Colorado and southern Wyoming.”

The next step is to determine where in the downtown area to hold the event. “We’re seriously having a hard time figuring out where to have it,” Farenbruch said, adding the group is considering using Lincoln Park. “We do want to be able to have outside and inside venues at the same place.”

Meanwhile, Farenbruch said the DDA is busy focusing on other immediate issues, including finding a new executive director following former DDA director Patty Snidow’s retirement, and getting ready for renovation on the downtown plazas to begin sometime this month.
