Wirth Awards accepting nominations for business

BOULDER ? The Wirth Awards, sponsored by The Wirth Chair in Environmental and Community Development Policy at the University of Colorado in Denver, is accepting nominations from the business community for the first time. Currently in its fifth year, the award recognizes outstanding achievement in community projects that focus on sustainable development.

Marshall Kaplan, executive director of the Wirth Chair, stated that a business category was added because of the progress being made by businesses in the area of energy efficiency and energy management, carbon-emission reduction, efforts to address global warming and smart-growth initiatives.

Any business that is striving to meet sustainable goals and has replicable plans and programs is eligible. Businesses can nominate themselves or other businesses. Nominations must be made by Dec. 15 and winners are chosen in January 2002. Send a few paragraphs about a business that is meeting these goals to The Wirth Chair Awards, University of Colorado at Denver, 1445 Market St., Suite 350D, Denver, Colo. 80202 or call (303) 820-5628 for more information.
