Technology, Internet forcing music business to change tune

Music is software. To many of us this is obvious, but to most people this concept is both strange and meaningless.

How can music be software? It’s, well, music! And even if it is software, so what? Well, the music business knows what, and the fact that the world is slowly coming around to the idea of music being merely another form of software has the business terrified.

How can music be software? Well, think about the different ways music can be “carried.” Music can be distributed on compact disks, tapes, vinyl, computer hard disks, floppy disks, over the radio, on cable-TV…
