New spring art exhibitions running at BMoCA

BOULDER — The Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art (BMoCA) i has new spring exhibitions running through June 2. Paintings by Udo Noger from 1990-2000, new works by artist Melissa Kretschmer and a Comfort Station group exhibition have been added for the spring.

Udo Noger is a German born artist interested in light and its alluring manifestations. Melissa Kretschmer’s new work is entitled Stratavaria and is composed of panes of glass, layered with mixed deposits of viscous tar and silicone. Kretschmer will also create a new work at the museum. Five recent graduates of the University of Colorado’s Master of Fine Arts Program have been selected to construct a comfort station. Materials the new artists will sue include fabric, chalk, wood, light, paint and corn.

Inspired by classical Greek mythology, the opera is the story of Orpheus, the world’s greatest musician, who mourns the death of his wife Eurydice.

The opera is being directed by Doug Varone, internationally acclaimed choreographer, and James Robinson. American mezzo-soprano Theodora Hanslowe will play Orpheus and Irish soprano Franzita Whelan will play Eurydice. It will be sung in French with an English translation projected above the stage.
