By Business Report Staff

The alignment for the proposed Northwest Parkway was approved March 27, as well as a plan for a bond sale that will fund the 9-mile toll road.

The road, which will run from the E-470 interchange at Interstate 25 to 96th Street near U.S. Highway 36, is estimated to cost about $275 million.

The Northwest Parkway Public Highway Authority plans to raise $375 million, with the extra $100 million as a buffer should toll revenues not entirely cover construction and operations costs.

The bonds are expected to begin selling later this spring with construction beginning in early fall should the bond sale proceed on schedule, the Authority expects. Authority Executive Director Steve Hogan had previously expected construction to begin in the summer. The Parkway is expected to open for traffic by the end of 2003 along with the E-470 interchange.
